ADJACENT MEDIA SHORT FILM “LIFE EVENT” AND SOUNDTRACK TO MAKE DIGITAL DEBUT ON REVRY, THE FIRST LGBTQ STREAMING NETWORK
LOS ANGELES (June 21, 2016) – LIFE EVENT – the debut short film and original soundtrack from writer/director R. Michael Thomas and his Adjacent Media imprint – will make its digital debut today on REVRY, the new streaming service for LGBTQ digital entertainment.
Launched today, REVRY is the world’s first LGBTQ streaming platform for Apple TV and Google Chromecast. It features the best QueeratedTM (queer + curated) movies, television, digital series, music videos, podcasts, and music.
Starring newcomer Patrick Cage II and Nic Few (Major Crimes, The Real MVP: The Wanda Pratt Story), LIFE EVENT tells the story of Murph (Cage), a weary young professional on his thirtieth birthday, as he realizes that being a real adult is harder than it looks. After a tough day of awkward office parties, arguments with family, and romantic strife, in one fell swoop, Murph decides to turn the day – and his life – around.
On Friday, June 24, Adjacent Media will also release the film’s soundtrack, which features new and original songs from independent soul and R&B artists JaVonté, A-natural, and Sam Trump (with Calvin Valentine). The digital-only release will be available on REVRY, as well as all major streaming platforms (Spotify, TIDAL, Apple Music, Deezer) and through all major digital music stores (iTunes, Amazon, Google Play Music). It is currently available for pre-order through iTunes and Amazon.
The film will be released publicly on Sunday, June 26, as part of @IssaRaePresents #ShortFilmSundays. Internet sensation Issa Rae is the creator and star of the critically-acclaimed web series, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl and the forthcoming half-hour HBO comedy, Insecure. Her @IssaRaePresents projects have garnered more than 200,000 subscribers and 25 million views on YouTube.
The streaming of LIFE EVENT is just the first exciting announcement from Adjacent Media this summer. Also in June 2016, the media company optioned the film rights to author Renée Watson’s moving young adult novel, What Momma Left Me (Bloomsbury 2012) and signed its first recording artist, vocalist Gene Blackmon out of Dallas, Tex.
